WHEN ONE DOOR closes, another opens, the saying goes. In the case of the Lattimer Gallery and Gifts exiting the shop space at Museum of Vancouver, the organization has just announced plans to collaborate with local emerging artists for pop-up shops.

THE ART SHOP (TAS) kicks things off beginning July 3, with a one-month stay. The local collective supports emerging artists through selling art that it describes as “accessible, relatable, and attainable”.

MOV hopes to host other pop-ups, partnering with other local arts groups and rotating them within the space on a bi-monthly basis.

Some of the TAS creatives being featured are queer mixed-media artist River Miller, a member of the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) First Nation; Czech-Cantonese-Canadian experimental painter Kalvin Valko; multi-disciplinary artist David Ullock; and photographer Lillian Fong Hoon, among others.

“The Museum is excited about the potential of this partnership and future collaborations with Vancouver based artist collectives,” Museum of Vancouver’s Mauro Vescera said in a release. “We are aware of the limitations and barriers these groups face when it comes to space in the City. Supporting diverse and emerging artists in this simple way allows MOV to yet again be a platform for the local art scene, while also elevating MOV’s offerings to guests that visit the museum.”
