The Polygon Gallery's annual Holiday Shop is now open for the season
Festive experience and shopping hub celebrates independent local makers with events throughout November and December
The Polygon Gallery presents its annual Holiday Shop from November 13 to January 5. For this beloved yearly tradition, the gallery’s main floor will be beautifully decorated and carefully curated with unique gifts by independent makers and artists. Additionally, there will be weekly interactive activities for visitors to enjoy, such as holiday craft workshops, vintage photography sessions, The Shipyards’ annual tree-lighting event, and even a pop-up tattoo parlour.
The Polygon Gallery’s retail buyer, Marie Ng, has filled the Holiday Shop with local brands, ensuring that Canadian products will sit alongside established international labels. Featured vendors include DW Leatherworks, a producer of quality leather goods that are cut, stitched, and burnished by hand; Knitbone Ceramics, which makes functional red-clay ceramics for the home; and Skwálwen, an Indigenous skincare line that honours Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) plant knowledge. There’s also decor and lifestyle brand Ebb & Flow, bean-to-bar chocolate company Kasama Chocolate, and plenty more.
After visiting the Holiday Shop, guests are encouraged to take in The Polygon Gallery’s three winter exhibitions, which include The Lind Biennial, Tau Lewis: Coloratura, and Tales from the Crypt. Admission to see the exhibitions is by donation courtesy of BMO Financial Group. Through the holidays it’s free for all visitors who spend over $100 in the Holiday Shop or the Diane Evans Bookstore.
The Holiday Shop will also host a variety of eclectic events throughout the festive season. Scheduled activities this month include a floral-arrangement workshop with Flower House on November 16; an introduction to beading with Secwépemc artist and Polygon assistant curator Serena Steel on November 17; and the City of North Vancouver’s day-long Spirit of the Season tree-lighting event directly in front of The Polygon Gallery on November 30, featuring a Sip & Shop with mulled wine.
Among the happenings next month are a festive wreath-making workshop with Flower House on December 1; a tattoo-parlour day with over a dozen local artists on December 5; Tintype Vintage photography sessions by Geoffrey Wallang for people on December 14 and pets on December 15; and the Diane Evans Bookstore holiday sale on December 21.
