B.C. takes on Bordeaux grapes the focus of Uncork the Sun’s next virtual wine tasting
Oliver-Osoyoos Wine Country pours bold reds in upcoming installment of new online wine-education series with Vinstitute
Uncork the Sun’s happens the last Tuesday of the month at 7 pm PDT on Facebook Live. The next edition is May 25.
BIG, BOLD REDS reds are the focus Oliver-Osoyoos Wine Country’s next installment of Uncork the Sun’s new virtual wine tasting series.
Exploring the characteristics and components of Bordeaux grape varieties, wine educator Moss Scheurkogel will discuss some of B.C.’s best red wines. Scheurkogel is the founder and lead instructor of Vinstitute Wine School, the Okanagan's only public wine-education facility located inside Intersection Estate Winery just north of Osoyoos.
He will touch on Meritage (the North American name for Bordeaux-style blends is a mix itself of the words “merit” and “heritage”). Traditionally, the wines consist of a blend of two or more of the red “noble” Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.
On the tasting menu are Bordertown Winery 2018 Cabernet Franc, Church & State Wines 2017 Merlot, Hidden Chapel Winery 2016 Shotgun Wedding (Cabernet Sauvignon), and Gold Hill Winery 2014 Grand Vin.
Uncork the Sun’s new virtual tasting series runs on the last Tuesday evening of each month.
On June 29, the topic is lighter whites featuring Gehringer Brothers Estate Winery 2020 Auxerrois, Hester Creek Estate Winery 2020 Trebbiano, Nostalgia Wines 2020 Kerner, and Silver Sage Winery 2019 Sparkling Velvet.
The July 27 event focuses on GSM (Grenache, Syrah/Shiraz and Mourvedre) and Rhône-style whites. The lineup includes Black Hills Estate Winery Syrah, Castoro de Oro Estate Winery Viognier, Nk’Mip Cellars Syrah, and Road 13 Vineyards 2018 GSM.
Dessert wines get the spotlight on August 31. The event will focus on Adega on 45th Estate Winery Portao and Portao Da Adega Branco, Inniskillin Icewine, Maverick Estate Winery Fia Fortified Wine, and vinAmité Cellars Ouest.
The September 28 tasting heads to the cellar with library wines by Culmina Family Estate Winery, Gold Hill Winery, Jackson-Triggs, Lariana Cellars, and Nk’Mip Cellars.
