Tacofino’s Shift Change covers queer competency, December 8
It’s the latest online discussion to improve workplace culture in Vancouver’s hospitality industry
Queer Competency for the Hospitality Industry takes place December 8 at 3 pm via Zoom.
QUEER COMPETENCY FOR the Hospitality Industry is the topic for the next edition of Tacofino’s Shift Change series. Taking place via Zoom on December 8 at 3 pm, it’s part of the restaurant group’s Speakers for Change initiative.
Keynote speakers are Rana Nu (she/her) and Han Hugessen (they/them) of local non-profit organization QMUNITY, which aims to better the lives of queer, trans, and Two-Spirited individuals.
Nu is an education and training specialist with the organization; Hugessen, who identifies as non-binary and has experience in the service industry, is QMUNITY’s specialist of youth programming.
Tacofino launched Shift Change last year to foster meaningful discussion on issues such as mental health, substance use, and diversity within the local food-business and hospitality sectors. Focused on building a greater sense of community and support, the free monthly one-hour Zoom sessions bring in community leaders and include information on where to find help. Last month, the series explored equity and inclusion for racialized groups within these industries
Tacofino donates $1,250 per session to the keynote speaker’s charity or cause of choice. To register or learn more, visit shiftchangenow.com.
