Boca del Lupo
Boca del Lupo’s mission is to create extraordinary performances in unconventional spaces. Led by Co-Artistic Directors Sherry J. Yoon and Jay Dodge, Boca del Lupo has created more than 60 new works since its inception in 1996.
With a foundation in theatre, Boca del Lupo has evolved into a multi-disciplinary company often partnering with artists and organizations that are beyond the conventional boundaries of its form and sector. The full team includes Boomer Stacey as Artistic Producer, Carey Dodge as Technology Director, and Matthew Rhodes as Associate Producer.
Boca del Lupo’s wide array of programming includes its Micro Performance Series, focusing on intimate, impactful experiences in partnership with organizations across Vancouver. While mainly based on Granville Island, Boca del Lupo also tours projects nationally and internationally, such as the recent international presentations of Red Phone.
The company believes in providing equal opportunities to a diversity of artists and individuals in emerging and leadership positions. The team is devoted to accessibility and works to broaden the participation, and importance of contemporary performance within the multiplicity of Canadian cultures.
Boca del Lupo has a strong level of engagement with professional arts-services organizations and meaningful outreach into the community, including its LivePerformance360 Archival Project and its social enterprise, MediaLab. The company also hosts a vibrant artist development program known as SLaM, in addition to artistic residencies on the Sunshine Coast.
Sherry J Yoon is also one of the founding members of AACPA, the collective behind the Stop Asian Hate campaigns.
Under the leadership of Yoon and Dodge, the company has received numerous awards including Jessies for Outstanding Design, Outstanding Production, Significant Artistic Achievement, and Outstanding Performance; the Critics’ Choice Award for Innovation; and the Alcan Performing Arts Award. 'Western Box' collection of Plays2Perform@Home, a home delivery theatre project, won the 2021 Patrick O’Neill Award for Best Play Anthology. Yoon was honoured as a Finalist for the 2022 Siminovitch Prize.
Boca del Lupo is grateful to create and work on the unceded territory of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) people.
